Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10

Equal parts Brandt Bjork and Pentagram. Long songs with a desert/stoner flow coupled to crunchy riffs and mid-range vocals that are more rhythmic than melodic. Everything is rooted in bluesy doom and it all seems so logical, but I don’t think it’s ever been done quite like this. Killer album.

Monolord return! Delivering both the heavy goods in the Only Road and a flair of more noodly flavor in Glaive, which captured my interest and carried me into a paradise of heavy tone. We all love the glacial weight of the Monolord we know, but I hope they surprise us sometime soon by breaking their mono(lord)ithic slabs of heaviness with some lighter bursts of psychedelia and prog rock!
